Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel, as the national mobile services provider, firmly believes that education is the key to breaking the vicious cycle of poverty the world over. Therefore Mobitel is proud to be associated with ‘1Goal – Education for All’, the global campaign to ensure that every child receives a proper education.

What is 1Goal?

In 2000, the United Nations (UN) made a ‘millennium promise’ to give every child in the world access to education by the year 2015. 1Goal is an initiative to ensure that this promise is kept. It is a petition to be signed by millions of people around the world including world leaders and popular celebrities.

Why join 1Goal?

At present, 72 million children worldwide are denied the opportunity to go to school. Many of these children have the potential to be the next generation's leaders, doctors, teachers and other professionals. But without access to education they have little or no hope of achieving anything in life.

When I join where does my name go?

By joining 1GOAL you join the 1GOAL petition of people who want to make sure everyone gets an education. 1GOAL will deliver the millions of names to governments ahead of the next UN meeting on 'Millennium Development Goals' in September 2010, asking them to ensure that the education goals are met by the 2015 deadline.

Who is doing this?

This project was initiated by the Global Campaign for Education.

What is Mobitel's involvement?

A global mobile campaign is underway to promote 1Goal and this is being managed by GSM Association (http://www.gsmworld.com). Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel is spearheading this campaign in Sri Lanka.

When is the launch?

The campaign was officially announced at the GSM Association Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on 16th of February while the global 1Goal consumer campaign launches on the 20th of April.

Why '1Goal'?

This campaign is to be promoted in parallel with the 2010 FIFA Football World Cup in South Africa in June, the 2nd largest sporting event in the world. Therefore it will be an official legacy of the tournament. The name, while being an obvious reference to this also signifies people joining hands for a worthy cause.

How do I get involved?

There are 4 ways you can sign up:

1. Reply YES to the SMS sent by 1Goal.
2. Dial 64625 on your Mobitel connection and follow voice commands.
3. Type YES and send SMS to 64625 from your Mobitel connection.
4. Fill out the form on the 1Goal website main page. (www.join1goal.org)

Will I be charged for registration?

No. This service is absolutely free!
