1. What is M3 High Speed Internet?
M3 High Speed Internet is a high speed data connectivity service which will enable you to download and upload large files at very high speeds no matter where you are, provided that you are within 3.5G coverage. M3 High Speed Internet is powered by HSPA.
2. What is HSPA?
HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) combines the features of HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access) and HSUPA (High Speed Uplink Packet Access) enabling you to access data at speeds up to 14.4 Mbps Downlink and up to 1.98 Mbps Uplink, on devices supporting HSPA.
3. Will I have to pay for the time I am logged on to the network or only for the actual data usage?
You will only have to pay for the actual data usage, irrespective of the time you have spent logged on.
4. The data usage is calculated for Downloading or Uploading or for both?
The data usage is calculated both for uploading and downloading.
5. What can I do with 100MB of data?
You will be able to retrieve approximately1000 Emails, download 25 MP3 Songs or browse over 300 web pages.(These are just indicative figures and the actual values may vary depending on the size of each unit illustrated in the above example).

6. How can I check my usage?
You can check your usage through your online account on the Mobitel corporate website at MyAccount
7. How do I create My Account?
Click on Account Login and then sign up. After signing up, you will be prompted for an activation code. Please enter the activation code you will receive via SMS on your device. This SMS will be sent to you after signing up for your account. If you require further assistance in setting up, please e-mail info@mobitel.lk with the subject "Assistance in creating My Account on the site" or call us on the Mobitel Hotline 071 275 5777 and we will assist you in setting up your account.
8. What are the system requirements of a PC in order to support HSDPA devices?
The system requirements will vary depending on the make and type of the device. Most of the Laptops or Personal Computers in use today are capable of supporting them.
Generally, a personal computer (Laptop or Desktop) with the following configuration would meet the requirements:

  • Processor 1 GHz or advanced
  • RAM 512 MB or advanced
  • Free Space 100MB
  • OS - Windows 2000/XP/Vista

However, the above configuration should only be used as a guideline and it is advised to ascertain the compatibility of the system requirements of the device with the computer you intend to use before purchasing.
If you are using a Laptop/PC running on a different OS (Apple Mac etc.,) please check with the modem manufacturer's specifications for compatibility.
9. What are the types of devices that are available with the network?

10. Do I need to install special software on my Laptop / Desktop Computer to use?
Yes. Most of the USB devices will have the software built-in and will automatically install with the first use. Please refer to the device manufacturer's instructions before using.

Late Night Internet

What is Late Night Internet Plans?
It is an add-on bundle to the existing commercial package, where the customer gets an additional bundle over its existing commercial package bundle at a nominal price. This additional bundle will be given priority in utilization over the current commercial package bundle, during off-peak hours.
What is the time duration of “Off-Peak” hours for broadband?
12.00 a.m – 6.00 a.m

How can this plan be activated?
The Off-Peak bundle works as an add-on to the current commercial package. If the customer wants to activate the plan he/she has to SMS either of the following to 2545

Is there an activation/registration fee?
No there is no activation/registration fee involved
Who is entitled to activate this plan?
Anyone who has registered for a commercial postpaid broadband package (BB 240, Senehasa Upahara, Zoom 475, Zoom 590, Zoom 890, Zoom 1290), with Mobitel is entitled to activate the late night internet plans.
Has this plan to be activated every month?
No, once the plan is activated as an add-on it gets auto-renewed every month.

No, once deactivated the customer can only activate a different OP bundle
If I have an unutilized bundle within one bill run, can I carry it forward to the next bill run

Can Pre-Paid Internet plans be activated with a Smart loan balance?
No
Can Remix or BlackBerry plans activated while on a Pre-Paid internet plan?
Yes. DATA priority will be given for Pre-Paid internet package bundle
Will my data session be interrupted while receiving or taking a voice call?
Your data session will be interrupted if you are in 2G Coverage. But you can reconnect at any time till the end of your validity period
If you are in 3G coverage, your data session will not be interrupted. However, your data transfer speeds will reduce for the duration of the call and resume to normal speeds thereafter
What will happen to the features I enjoy in my Pre Paid Internet subscription, if my credit balance reaches zero while I’m still within an active Pre Paid Internet plan?
You will still be able to enjoy your unused Internet plan features within the given time period, even when your balance reaches zero
Can I activate a Pre-Paid Internet plan while being subscribed to Smart Freedom?
You can only do so when you have exhausted your entitlement of all the features (Voice Minutes, Video Minutes and SMS) of your Freedom option

How do the sub-lines work?
The sub-lines work as a part of the main package and the utilization of data on the sub lines will be deducted from the free bundle of the respective main line which the sub-line is connected under. The free data bundle can be shared among the main line and the respective sub-lines accordingly. The accumulation of the total utilized data on the main line and sub-lines exceeds the free data bundle; the excess usage charge on data will be applied.
Can a customer use both sub-lines and the main lines together?
Yes, as the purpose of issuing sub-lines is for multiple device users they can be used together.
Can I activate voice on the sub-lines connected under these packages?

If I have activated voice on my main line does it automatically get updated on my sub-line as well?

DUAL CARRIER HSPA+

What is DUAL CARRIER HSPA+ service?
HSPA + is a mobile telephony technology that allows for data transmission speeds up to 21 Mbps. DC- HSPA+ is a further evolution of HSPA+ that offers data speeds of up to 42 Mbps. This is the next evolution of 3G technology from HSPA+ (3.75G). The theoretical Maximum speed that can be achieved with the Dual Carrier -HSPA+ technology, is 42 Mbps. So this has doubled the theoretically achievable max. speed of 21 Mbps in HSPA+ technology.
What is the difference between HSPA, HSPA+, DC-HSPA+& LTE?
HSPA allows data transmission’s maximum upto 14.4Mbps (though it allows 7.2Mbps), HSPA+ allows maximum upto 21Mbps, DC-HSPA+ allows upto 42Mbps LTE allows upto 100Mbps.
Do I need a DC-HSPA+ Compatible device to experience this?
Yes. In order to experience the DC-HSPA+ technology, a DC HSPA+ compatible device needs to be used.
Will there be any kind of impact to the HSDPA or HSPA+ supporting device which I currently use?
No, there will not be any impact. The network is fully backward compatible and supports all kinds of devices.
What are the HSPA+ compatible dongles that is currently available with Mobitel?

Note: - above mentioned routers support HSPA+ technology (that is data transmissions upto 21Mbps) and not Dual Carrier HSPA+.  However Mobitel network supports HSPA+ and DC–HSPA+ technology.

Can ordinary Personal Computers which support Dual Carrier HSPA+ devices also support DC-HSPA+ devices? Are there any restrictions on operating system?
Yes. System requirements are same as HSPA+ supporting Personal Computers. Thus, any Personal Computer that is compatible with an HSPA+ device should be compatible to work with the DC-HSPA+ device
What is the Dual Carrier HSPA+ trial activation?
The Dual Carrier HSPA+ trial activation allows a Mobitel postpaid broadband subscriber to experience the Dual Carrier HSPA+ technology free of charge for a maximum period of 1 day. However in order to experience this service the customer has to use a Dual Carrier HSPA+ compatible dongle.
Who can activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service (Both trial and permanent activation)?
All postpaid broadband subscribers can activate the service.
How can I activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ trial activation?
Type “trial space DC” and SMS to 2545.
How do I deactivate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ trial service?
The trial activation will be automatically deactivated within a period of 24 hours. If the customer wishes the customer can do a permanent deactivation thereafter.
Can I reactivate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ trial service once activated?
No, you are eligible to activate the trial service only one per bill run.
How can I activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service permanently?

How can I deactivate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service?

Once I activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service, do I have keep activating it every month?
No, once you activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service, it will be auto-renewed at your bill run date until deactivated.
Can I activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service without a Dual Carrier HSPA+ compatible dongle?
Yes, the service will get activated and you will be charged for, however you will not be able to experience the Dual Carrier HSPA+ technology.
What are the allocated speeds of DUAL CARRIER HSPA+ service?
Upon activation with a Dual Carrier HSPA+ compatible device, the customer can experience a maximum downlink speed up to 42Mbps and a maximum uplink speed upto a 5.76 Mbps.
What will happen to my allocated speeds after disconnection of the service?
If you deactivate the DC service, the Downlink & Uplink speed that has been allocated to your mobile will be revised to the original speed that was allocated to your post-paid broadband package.
Once I activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service, is the technology applicable for all feature activations?
Yes, once the service has been activated in your package the respective speeds and technology of the service is applicable for all feature activations of the package.

E.g. Late Night Internet Plans

If I do a package change, have I to activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service again?
No, since the service has already been activated in your number the service need not be activated again. However the relevant monthly subscription fee of the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service is subject to change based on the postpaid broadband package the subscriber upgrades or downgrade the broadband package.
If I do an IMSI change, have I to activate the Dual Carrier HSPA+ service again?
No, since the service has already been activated in your number the service need not be activated again.

How can I change from an existing Zoom package / an existing internet plan to a new internet plan?
You would be required to visit any of Mobitel’s branches, Authorized dealers / sub-dealers and request for a package change. No additional fee would be charged for package changes, however depending on the new package chosen by you the amount of refundable deposit, Credit limit & rental would apply
How can I obtain a new internet plan?
  • Call over in person at Mobitel Centre and request for new internet plan.
  • Produce your NIC/Valid Passport/Driving License and Institute
  • Be willing to be photographed or bring a passport size photograph
  • Make payment for the connection fee of Rs. 100/=  along with the required Refundable deposit depending on the package chosen by you
  • Produce billing proof (For new customers only)
Can I still make & receive calls & SMSs through these internet plans?

Yes, you can make & receive calls & SMS. However this would not be included as a part of the free bundle & would be charged as follows;

No you cannot as a late night internet bundle is already included in your internet plans.
Can I activate ‘content based charging plans’ on to my internet plans?
Yes you can.
How will I be charged for excess usage beyond the prescribed free bundle?
By default the excess charge is enabled and you will be billed for excess usage as per package details. (Refer package details)
How do I check my usage & balance remaining in my bundle?
You will be receiving an SMS daily by default.
You could also additionally request for your balance details by sending an SMS typing  ‘usage’ and sending to 4567

Yes. However the SIM card will need to be changed and you need to follow the standard number portability migration procedure from Pre-Paid to Post Paid with the required documents , connection fee of Rs.100/= & applicable refundable deposit
What is my Credit Limit?
Your Initial credit limit will depend on the internet plan chosen by you. (Refer table above)
What happens when I fail to make a payment?
If payments are not made on or before the due date the subscriber would be sent a text message (SMS) and a reminder call before any credit action is being taken.

An SMS reminder would be sent when customer reaches 80% of his credit limit
Can I use my internet plans while roaming?
Yes, however the refundable deposits should be kept by you and roaming charges would also apply. Note that the roaming usage will be shown in your bill separately and this bundle plan chosen by you would not be applicable .Pls. make sure to find out the roaming rates applicable before you travel

Does rental prorating apply?
No, Rentals and bundles will not be prorated. At the point of connection your bill run will be selected as the most recent (already passed) bill run.
How to read my bill?
  • Monthly rental shall be shown as ‘Monthly rental’
  • Peak CDR shall be flagged with a ‘P’
  • Off-peak CDR shall be flagged with an ‘O’

NO. The free voice minutes will be added to his next bill run which can be utilized only within the billing cycle and will not be carried forward if it is not utilized.

Ex: -You use 2GB of excessdata  from your current bill cycle you will be eligible for 60 bonus minutes free which  will be added to your next months bill.
