As a Responsible Corporate Citizen, the SLT Group in Collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunication & Digital Infrastructure Takes Step to Initiate a Special Natural Disaster Relief Program

                                                                                                                                                                               
 
Sri Lanka Telecom Group as a responsible corporate citizen has decided to initiate a special natural disaster relief programme in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Infrastructure to provide relief and facilities to the people affected by the prevailing inclement weather condition, perhaps the most destructive natural disaster after tsunami in 2004. Following actions will be taken under this programme:
 
  1. A sum of Rs. 6 million will be donated to special president's fund to contribute towards providing relief and facilities to such people. 
  2. On the request of the vast majority of SLT employees, it has been decided to donate one day's salary of all employees of SLT, Mobitel and all other subsidiaries of the SLT Group. Further, both the Minister and Deputy Minister of Telecommunication & Digital Infrastructure have decided to donate their one month's salary to this fund. Accordingly, the entire group will donate a sum of Rs. 10 million for this purpose. 
  3. On the request of Hon. Harin Fernando, Minister of Telecommunication and Digital Infrastructure and Mr. P. G. Kumarasinghe Sirisena, Chairman of SLT, it has been decided to provide 24 hours free information services on disastrous situations and relief providing initiatives through Government Information Center. 
  4. As per the decision made by the management, all the SLT offices throughout the country will remain opened for relief providing purposes and collecting goods to be distributed among the victims. 
  5. Two special SLT and Mobitel telephone numbers will also be devoted to coordinate relief providing programs:
    • SLT : 011 202 1550
    • Mobitel: 070 22 66 266
  6. Arrangements have also been made to initiate a special SMS service to raise public awareness about relief services. 
  7. In order to fulfill the communication requirements of disaster relief centers, both SLT and Mobitel has decided to provide 150 CDMA and mobile phones to volunteering leaders, Grama Niladharis, Samurdhi officers and other responsible government officers. Arrangements have also been made to provide all government employees involved in disaster relief services with a special Upahara package. Please contact the relevant Divisional Secretariats for further coordination in this regards. 
  8. The whole process will be implemented in collaboration with the Disaster Management Center with the support of security personnel and all other parties.
